Dear Terra Nova Fans;
We have achieved a lot in the last month or so. From the launch of the site and massive exposure through media such as twitter, Facebook and other social sites, the Terra Nova site is experiencing a high influx of viewers on a daily basis. Recent statistics show that on average our posts reach approximately 20 – 25000 people on a daily basis. Our petition has had a massive response, crossing the 15000 signatures mark last week.
Moving ahead it seems that we need to be more aggressive in our campaigning methodology. That being said, aggressive does not mean angry and abusive. It means directly targeting potential fans and running a positive campaign that will cause our movement to grow further and faster.
With increased numbers comes increased exposure and with increased exposure comes a much louder noise from the fan base.
The fundamentals are in place, now we are going to expand on what we have already achieved. This letter is to brief all fans of the show on what we have in mind.
1. Ask and Ye Shall Receive
A new petition has been launched on the SaveTerraNova.net website which asks fox to consider the commission of a Terra Nova movie. In line with that we have now coined the hash tag #TerraNovaMovie on Twitter. If you are tweeting about the movie then please use this tag. If you are tweeting in general about the show then please use #SaveTerraNova
2. Getting the Message to the right people.
I have today invested in a number of social exposure services from my own pocket to increase the visibility of our movement and to directly target the fan base ensuring that those who love the show are in the know about what is going on and what we are trying to do to get Terra Nova back on the air.
3. We need the fans to spread the word.
We need the fans to pass the word, retweet the posts of @SaveTerra and @Jason_Omara and @stephenlangfans. We need the fans to share postings from Jason O’Mara and Save Terra Nova on Facebook and we need the fans to share article links from the site as they pop up. Every time you do this you make our cause stronger and you expose the world to the movement. This encourages others to join the campaign.
4. Tagging
Tagging is not a new principle but it is still a very powerful one. If you have ever used the @sign when updating your Facebook profile status you may have noticed that as you begin to type after it, Facebook throws up a list. So for instance if you typed @ and then began to type Save Terra Nova (@Sav), because you have liked the page you should see “Save Terra Nova” appear on the list that is presented to you.
So what exactly does this mean for the cause? Well! Simply put, if you are typing a status update about terra nova on your wall or sharing a link to do with Terra Nova you can tag us.
Here is an example message:
“I see that Save Terra Nova are running a Terra Nova movie petition you can access it here at www.saveterranova.net”
This sentence has two potential tags. The first is our page “Save Terra Nova” and the second is the main commercial “Terra Nova” page. If you have liked both then as you type your status update you can tag those two sets of words.
You would start by typing: “I see that @Save T….”. “Save Terra Nova” would be presented to you and you simply click it. The @Save T would be replaced by Save Terra Nova and the @Save T would disappear. You may see at this point that it has been highlight, you may not, depending on how your computer is configured but you would continue to type anyway.
The next bit is “…are running a @Terra N…..”. Again you would be presented with a list and on it should be “Terra Nova” (If you have previously liked that page). Simply click it and @Terra N would be replaced by a highlighted “Terra Nova”.
When you have finished what you are saying then you can simply click submit. You will see that the message comes out just as it would but that there is a difference. Both “Save Terra Nova” and “Terra Nova” will be displayed as blue text rather than black. In fact if you click on them they will go to the page in question.
You can tag any page that you like in this fashion.
So why is this so powerful for the cause?
Well you are not only giving the link to the pages that you are tagging but that post is also sent to the other pages you have tagged as well. It gives more exposure to both our page and others. In the example about, Fans of the Terra Nova official page are effectively being shown the movement’s page for Save Terra Nova.
This is an extremely powerful tool. Many SEO and social media gurus are probably bubbling up with anger at me teaching you how to do this but it is for the good of the cause.
5. We need to keep the message positive.
There have been quite a few disgruntled messages of late on different websites. I understand that a lot of you are angry at the cancellation of yet another good TV programme but we need to keep in mind a few things when we are talking about the show.
Please remember that the current economic conditions mean that networks have to adopt a new way of thinking and while it may not make sense to us as fans, those changes in their business acumen will ensure the survival of the network as a whole. If there is no network then there is simply no future chance of bringing back the show or creating new shows.
If it wasn’t for fox then we wouldn’t have been given Terra Nova in the first place. They, as a network risked a lot in starting the venture that became Terra Nova at great expense to them as a company. Terra Nova is one of the most expensive TV Sci-fi shows ever created.
What we also have to remember is that Fox are doing what no other network has done before; they are actively canvassing to try and secure a new company to take over the show.
If we show Fox contempt then what you are actually doing is limiting their ability to negotiate and taking a chunk out of their enthusiasm to actually go the extra mile to secure the shows future.
A negative campaign makes them think “well, why should we bother?” and it makes other companies think to themselves “well why should we get involved with this project if the fans are that nasty”. This diminishes the chances of us getting the show back.
Rather than saying “We hate you for cancelling the show” we need to be saying “we love the fact you created it in the first place, hope that you will reconsider the cancellation or hope that you will go the extra mile to secure its future.”
A positive campaign will always outdo a negative one. It has been proven time and time again.
6. We saved the best for last:
We need to expand our team. So, with that in mind we are looking for contributors to help run the movements content through our new site platform at Save Terra Nova’s website. Any article or content posted on the site is automatically distributed to social media now. We truly have high level integration between the site and multiple social media sites.
We are looking for volunteers around the world to create content, articles and postings. We are also looking for volunteers to weed out and fish for great articles to post on the site. We are looking to give contributor access so you will be able to log in and post your own content. It will then be vetted by an editor and approved for distribution.
We want to get the community more involved in the show. Let the members take control and steer the ship so to speak.
We are also looking for multi lingual postings so we can ensure that as many people worldwide can read the posted content in their own language. We want this campaign to be as inclusive to all demographics as possible.
We are moving forward but we need the help of the movement fans to do it.
Sincerely
Martin Keatings

P.s
If you could pop across to Jason O’mara on Facebook and let him know we don’t intend to give up on the show yet. He seems a little down about the situation.
